ciao Martha!!

I really enjoyed the Martha Graham dance semester. I was not the best at it-but I find myself doing these movements everywhere. The other day I was in the Deer Park outlets and I started prancing around with my friend and her mom looking at me like I had five heads…oh well.

Martha this will not be the last you see of me!!!

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”

uno. dos. tres. CUATRO!!!

I thought Lamentation was a really cool piece. The name fits the movement perfectly. I felt the sadness in the piece. The contractions and releases were placed well in the piece and I could easily point them out. The helped convey the idea of sadness and despair. I also understand what Martha was speaking about when she was talking to the woman who had lost her son and was crying. I am the “strong one” in my family. I don’t cry at funerals, in hospitals, watching my family members die, or when I see suffering. My mom says I’m heartless because of it at times. I express my feelings in other ways. Certain songs that I love-I cannot listen to without crying, because of what they mean to me. I express myself in what I write and what I draw and sketch-photography is also a way for me to real ease my emotions in a productive way. People don’t always cry because sadness in life-they also cry because of joy.
